What Religious Persecution Looks Like

Introduction

This is a WebQuest that is part of the section of History of French Government/Understanding Blasphemy Laws: The History, the Persecution, the Controversy, and the Motivations.

In this section, students will find a personal story of someone that lives under blasphemy/anti-conversion/anti-evangelism laws. Whether it is considered a good or bad experience, the student must share it and then write a brief response to it analyzing it, and providing their own opinions on the subject.

Task

For this WebQuest, each student must research and find a personal story detailing the human aspect of blasphemy laws.  You will find a personal story detailing with the positives or the problems of someone under blasphemy laws. Look for something written from their perspective, whether a news story with quotes from them, or something personal written about in a story or narrative. Upload this to the website where it has a link for your name under Personal Stories. It doesn't have to be modern, but it should definitely be a personal story with personal quotes. Make at least one comment on someone else’s story.

Process

The process is fairly simple. It can be as easy as googling blasphemy laws, anti-conversion laws, anti-evangelism laws, religious freedom or religious persecution. From this, it should be fairly easy to look around for personal stories of those living under blasphemy laws. Ensure the article or story you find is a direct quote from someone and is from a reputable source.

Once you have found an article or story, go to https://www.pinterest.com/.

When you post, make sure to put your name on it, comment on your post, and then comment on at least one other post from another student. The username is bmattic@siue.edu. The password is ci440bp2015. Make sure you're on the Log In screen on the top right of the main page and not the sign up page.

Once logged in, go to the top right and click on CI4402015 to start accessing our board. Click on Personal Stories on this page towards the bottom. Click Add A Pin. Click From The Web. Enter the link to your story. Or if you want to upload a document from a print source, click From Your Device.

Write a quick, one sentence summary of the article or story, like it was a headline you created. Now, write a comment in the box below this and then also comment below one other person's story as well.

Evaluation

You will be assessed in multiple ways. You must follow the directions to post your story. You must make sure that it has quotes from a person living under blasphemy laws of some kind and it must be from a reputable source. You must make sure to comment on your article and on another's as well.
