Travelling across Europe

Introduction

INTRODUCTION

Welcome students!

You will have the opportunity to travel to a modern city full of history: London.

This WebQuest is a good way to go on studying the unit theme dedicated to travelling in Europe and to prepare a tour to this beautiful and cosmopolitan city.

Enjoy the city and have fun! And remember: “If a man is tired of London, he is tired of life” (Samuel Johnson)

Task

TASKS

Your task, in a group of four, is to create an itinerary to explore London, England.

Step 1 – BOOKING A HOSTEL

You are curious and adventurous, but you have little money to spend.

You want to stay in central London, arriving from Heathrow airport.

You will stay one week in a hostel.

You will find out some information on:

-          http://www.hostelbookers.com

-          http://www.hostelworld.com

Select ONE hostel and consider the following questions:

Is the accommodation suitable for the group?

Does the hostel offer a group discount?

And what is included in the price?

What facilities are offered?

Are there facilities you might need which are not offered?

What do the words related to facilities mean?  (Find the meaning of words & phrases you don't know.)

What about the location?

Is it near some interesting sights?

And the underground or train stations?

Calculate the total cost for your selection.

Explain the reasons for your selection.

SOME HINTS

Plan to visit some museums.

They are an excellent way of providing interactive experiences by getting us up close to things we usually only see in books, newspapers or on television.

In London there are over 240 diverse museums. Some of them don’t charge admission fee.
