Have you ever wondered how caterpillars turn into beautiful butterflies? Caterpillars go through many changes during their lives, just like we do!  Why did the caterpillar eat so much food? Why did he go in a cocoon and sleep?  How did the caterpillar wake up into a butterfly?  After listening to the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle and completing all of the activities on this web quest, you will understand how caterpillars become butterflies.

 

Task

It will be your job to listen to the Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle online. You will be able to show that you understand what happened in the story.  You will also learn  how caterpillars turn into butterflies.  Watch the videos, answer some questions, and fill out important information as you explore. 

By the end of your adventure you will be able to:

1. Tell the story of the Very Hungry Caterpillar to a family member.

2. Identify the four steps caterpillars go through to turn into butterflies.

Process

To start our journey, you will first get a chance to the Very Hungry Caterpillar online as it is being read by the book's author, Eric Carle. Be sure to listen carefully. You will be asked to complete activities to show how well you know the story. Have fun exploring! The Very Hungry CaterpillarHungryCaterpillar.jpghttp://www.eric-carle.com/ec_reads_vhc.html Now:   1.  Retell the story by putting the picture cards in order.  First, color the pictures.   You will then cut out the pictures.   Put the pictures in order and glue them to the blank piece of paper you were given.2.  Complete the "Fill in the Blank" worksheet by using the word box to complete the sentences. Fantastic job! It's time to learn more about caterpillars and butterflies!
