Introduction

 

 

It is everyone’s legal right to privacy of their health information,
including information about your HIV infection. It is therefore upon an
individual to decide whether they want to disclose their HIV status or not. It
has occurred in many instances that people’s HIV status is disclosed against
their will or even without their knowledge. This has caused many problems for
the victims. There are repercussions to such acts though. One may be able to
sue or just take legal action against them.

Task

At the end of this assignment students should be able to :

  • Moral implications of disclosing other people’s HIV status

 

  • Legal implications of disclosing other people’s HIV status

  • Importance of not disclosing other people’s HIV status
Process

                      

Step 1:             Conduct a web-search for 5 resources on the moral and legal implications of disclosing other people’s HIV status (3 on moral and 2 on legal)

   Post the URL of the resources

Step 2 Review the resources posted by your peers and write 1 paragraph indicating at least 1 moral implication and 1 legal implication of disclosing someone HIV status.

Step 2: Design a set of questions that would be asked to an HIV positive person whose status have been disclosed without his/ her permission.

Step 3: Student design a power point presentation on the implication of disclosing someone HIV status. The power point should include the following slides:

  • Introduction
  • Moral implication of disclosing someone’s HIV status (3 implications 1 per slide)
  • Legal implication of disclosing someone’s HIV status (2 implications 1 per slide)
  • Conclusion
  • Bibliography

Step 4: Write a 2 page essay of how you would react to finding out someone has disclosed your HIV status without your consent.
