Grammar- Focus on the Simple Past

Introduction
This webquest will be about Grammar exercises. It will guarantee a better comprehension of the simple past and the use of it . The students will work alone or in groups of two.

                     This webquest will be funny and I am sure you will enjoy this lesson

                                                       USE: Completed Action in the Past

                                                     

The Simple Past is used to express the idea that an action started and finished at a specific time in the past. Sometimes, the speaker   may not actually mention the specific time, but they do have one specific time in mind.

 

Past Simple Boy

He died in Italy two years ago.

didn't study much, therefore I failed the exam.

Did your brother visit your mother at the hospital? 

Were the children in the garden?

 

Task

Now that you have been informed about the use of the simple past you should be able to answer the following tasks.

1) Put in the right form of the simple past.

  1. Last year I (spend)       my holiday in Ireland.
  2. It (be)   great.
  3. (travel)  around by car with two friends and we (visit)  lots of interesting places.
  4. In the evenings we usually (go)  to a pub.
  5. One night we even (learn)  some Irish dances.
  6. We (be)  very lucky with the weather.
  7. It (not / rain)  a lot.
  8. But we (see)  some beautiful rainbows.
  9. Where (spend / you)  your last holiday?

2) Write down what you did last summer and then show it to your class mate. After that your partner gives you his text and you correct the text by looking carefully at the simple past form.

3) Write down five questions in the simple past and ask them in class. You can choose any pupil.

4) In the following you will see a test. Try to remember everything you learned about the simple past.

Process

The tasks given do not have to be resolved on your own or either in group work. It is

up to you how I plan your tasks. The important thing is that you hand in the answers

until the 17th of July.
