Introduction
Once students have completed their task, they will have a better understanding of how organisms interact with each other as well as their environment. This webquest is designed for students in grade 7, but can easily be adapted for any grade.
Task
You have been selected by a comittee from National Geographic to design a new magazine for kids. Your objective is to have the first edition explain and show how organisms interact with each other and their surrounding environment. Your editor Mrs. Baker will supply a list of important vocabulary you should include in your magazine.
Process
You will work with two other selected members. It is your groups mission to develop the magazine for presentation as either an online edition or a paper copy. If you choose to do an online edition, you may use any presentation format you choose. Your group will present their magazine for final proof one week from today. The following should be included:
1. Essential vocabulary will be used throughout your magazine to show what these important words mean.
2. A picture which shows examples of the vocabulary
3. Two advertisements that fit with the ecosystem your group has been assigned.
4. Spelling, creativity, color, and information will be the areas in which you will be graded.
Your group will use any website from the Chief Editor's portaportal page under the folder Ecology to gather information as well as pictures.
You will develop and design your magazine by using the computer lab, having BYOD days and use of the iPad cart. If you do a paper version, you will need to either draw your pictures or use other magazines to cut from. Your Chief Editor has some back issues of different magazines you might be able to utilize. No one will be allowed to print at school but must do so at home.
Evaluation
A rubric of how you will graded will be created by the Chief Editor and given to each group before the deadline.
Conclusion
The members of each group should now have a better understanding of how different organisms are able to survive and interact with each other and their surrounding environments.
Teacher Page
I will give my students the vocabulary they are held accountable for according to Alabama Standards. I developed the quest in a way that any educator can use their vocabulary of choice. I did not include a specific evaulation as that may be also left up to each educator.
