Good afternoon Students I know some of you may think fractions is the worst thing in the world. But it's not. Mickey and friends are here today to show you how much fun you can have with fractions.  We have a friend here to assist us when needed. We will call him Math A Doodle.

As you continue on your journey through the webquest you will be able to notice how fractions are used daily and how we work with fractions in many ways.

Task

Today we will be learning how to add and subtract fractions with like denominators.

When we are addng  or subtracting fractions with like denominators, which is the bottom number, you will bring the denominator over. Then you will add or subtract the numerator which is the top number.

Below is a cool game to get you started on  and familiar with adding fractions with like denominator.

I will model a sample problem for you 3/6+2/6=5/6 or 5/6-2/6=3/6.

Now I would like for you to take a moment and solve the above fraction.

Below is another game to further assist you with learning how to add and subtract fractions.

Evaluation

The students will be evaluated on completing the worksheet which is a Formative Assessment. The students will be give a Rubric Evaluation so they will know how they are being graded. The grading system is not a numeric grading is a grading on the students proficiency level.

Add/Subtract the Fraction BeginningThe student does not know how to correctly add or subtract the fractions without assistance. DevelopingWith some assistance the student somewhat understands how to add and subtract fractions with like denominators. AccomplishedWith minimal assistance the student somewhat understands how to add or subtract fractions with like denominators.

All of the students in this class are ADVANCE reach for the STARS.

Conclusion

Now we have come to the end of the webquest on adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators.  Mickey knows that you are a master with adding and subtracting fractions. I know wyou will look at fractions differently. You will be able to identify fractions daily.

Mickey says the more you practice, you will master adding and subtracting fractions.

The webquest I presentated today has some great sites that explain how to add and subtract fractions with like denominators.  As well, there are some cool web sites that have games that the students can play to practice adding and subtracting fractions.

As you can see above how fractions are used on a daily basis.
