Budgeting and Working with Money!

Introduction

EDUC1751 ASSESSMENT 2.

Welcome everyone to another WebQuest! In this one it is time to go shopping! This week it is time for you to do the weekly grocery shop at your favourite super market. You will have a budget of $100 for groceries and you will have to feed you and your family breakfast, lunch and dinner for a few days.

Task

You have a budget of $100 to spend for your grocery shop.  If you were really given this money, you would want to spend it all, but spend it wisely.  Try to look for the best buys and deals so you can get more for your money!Your task is to set up a budget for your shopping trip. You must decide 3 things:1. How much money you will spend on each person?2. What groceries do you think you will need to by?3. What stores will you be shopping at?You will need to complete 3 things for this WebQuest:1.  You will complete a budget table in your Smartboard slides to show how you spent the money.  2.  Use the 'snip tool' to save an image of your table and post it to Padlet.3.  You will then answer a number of questions about what you did and what you bought.

Process

Step 1: You are to go to either the 'Coles', 'Woolworths' or 'Aldi' webpage provided to go shopping. Remeber you must stay within your $100 limit.Coles:Woolworths:Aldi:Step 2: As you are shopping you will need to go back to your Smartboard slides table and write down what you bought, how many of each item and how much it will cost.Step 3:  After you have all your shopping done, you must use the 'snip tool' to get an image of your budget table and post it to this Padlet page with your name.Learn how to use the 'snip tool' on your Smartbaord slides!Step 4:  Finally you will answer the questions about your budgeting in the smartboard slides.

Title:  "Let's Go Shopping"

Description:  This Webquest will give students the opportunity to use their math skills in the real world by providing them with a simulated shopping experience.  Each person will select a supermarket where they will choose and record their groceries while staying within their budget. They will also compare prices, products and calculate their change.  Students will use the math skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division to complete this task.

Year Level: 5 and 6 (can be modified to cater to all ability levels).

Curriculum:  Australian Mathematics K-6 (Number and Algebra Strand)
