5-day Social Studies Lesson Plan

Introduction

This is a 5-day lesson plan that covers the following topics. American History: Great Depression and World War II, World History: World in Transition, Civics/Government: Rights, Responsibilities and roles of Citizenship, Goegraphy: Environment and Society,  Economics: Personal Finance. We will learn about the events that took place in history and what it takes to be an active citizen.

Task

Day 1- Great Depression and World War II: Students Google images from the great Depression and images of the events that took palce during World War II.

- Next, have students Google facts that relate to the Great Depression and World War II, have them read the facts and then write down what they learned using their own words.

- Then discuss how the students may have felt living through such ecents, and what they might have learned from the ecperience.

Day 2- Encounters and Exchange:  View Lewis And Clark video

- After the movie ends, have students complete the "What did you learn" activity.

- Allow students to play 2 or 3 history games found on the right side of the KidsKnowit website. After the games, have students write a report of what they did and what they learned from the lesson.

Day 3- Rights, Responsibilities, and Roles of Citizenship: View Democracy it is! video

- After the video, discuss how each student can do their part as a citizen for their community. 

- Each student draws a picture that represents the topic "Do Not Litter" or "Keep our Community Clean!"

Day 4- Environment and Society: View 25 Biggest Man Made Environmental Disasters of History

- After the video, discuss what could have caused these events.

- Discuss why we are so dependant on the environment.

- Have students draw a picture of a resource that we depend on the environment and nature to provide.

Day 5-  Personal Finance: View Cashvill Kids Episode 22, Savings vs Investing

- After the video, discuss different ways to save money.

- Have students create their one plan for how they can save money.  See how much you can save! 

Process

Day 1-  1. Google images and facts associated with the Great Depression and World War II.

             2. Students are to describe how they would feel if they had to live through these events.

             

Day 2-  1. Watch Lewis and Clark video.

             2. Complete the "What Did You Learn" activity at the end of the video.

             3. Have students play 2-3 history games from the Kidsknowit.com website.

             4. Finally, have students write a report on what they did and what they learned from the lesson.

            

Day 3-  1. Watch "Democracy is it! Responsibilities of Citixens".

             2. After the video, discuss what students can do to do their part as a citizen.

             3. Have students draw a picture that represents "Do Not Litter" or "Keep Our Community Clean".

Day 4-  1. Watch "25 Biggest Man Made Environmental Disasters of History".

             2. Discuss why man is so dependant on the environment and what could be done to prevent such disasters.

             3. Draw o picture of a resource that man is dependant on nature to provide.

Day 5-  1. Watch "Cash Ville Kids Episode 22, Savings vs Investing.

             2. Have students discuss different ways to save money.

             3. Have students create their own plan for saving money.  See how much you can save!

Evaluation
Creativity Students drawing should clearly relate to the topic.     25 points                                             
Information Students facts should be in their own words, not coppied word for word.      25 points 
Class Participation Student should have actively participated and showed effort in the students work.     25 points
Reflection Student  should have given thorough and clear answers during assignments.     25 points
Conclusion

Congradulations is in order for the 4th grade Social Studies students, you have just completed the 5 day social studies lesson.  I hope you all had a blast and learned some new things about the history of the world, and how you can become an active citized in your community.  Pass on what you have learned to others, teach them something new.
