Exploring World religions

Introduction

You are about to take a journey to discover a religion that you are not familiar with.  On this journey you will learn about how and when this religion began, the main beliefs, festivals and a lot more!

In addition to increasing your general knowledge, you will develop your research and communication skills as well as adding to your vocabulary.

Task

Create either a video, a poster or a presentation about the religion you are researching.  You must provide information about:

  1. The name of the religion
  2. Its origins (when / how / where did it begin)
  3. Place(s) of worship
  4. The main beliefs, rituals and practices
  5. The Holy book(s)
  6. Main festivals and celebrations (what they are / when are they celebrated and how)
  7. Any special dietary restrictions

Process

You will find out information by:

-       Interviewing another student who follows a different religion to yours

-      Researching information on the internet and in books.

The Interview

Design a questionnaire which contains at least 5 questions that you will ask your interviewee.

Hint: Try to use different question words (who/ why / where/ what and how) when designing your questions.

Research

-      You may use the internet to find out more information but you MUST copy and paste the URL of each website you use into a Word document, along with a note of the date on which you used it.

-      Remember to use suitable images

Use the following websites for your research:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/religion/religions/

http://resources.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/homework/Religion.html

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/religion/

Evaluation

Write two short paragraphs to evaluate the task you did.

Hint:  When we evaluate something we have to explain what worked well and what did not work well.

Guidance:

You will need to think about the journey you took to learn about another religion.

-      Was it an easy journey?

-      What worked well?

-      What did you enjoy?

-      Did you have any difficulties along the way?  If so, what were they?

Conclusion

Write a few sentences to sum up the main things you learnt on this journey.
