Podcast Option

Introduction

Well done! You have chosen ... the podcast option!

For this option, you must create a short (2-3 minute) radio podcast segment about an issue to do with gender representation.

This doesn't have to be about the media. It could be about:

- the representation of sportswomen compared to men

- subject selection at school (e.g. woodwork and other practical subjects)

- the representation of female politicians versus male politicians (for example - Julia Gillard was criticised for her looks instead of her politics)

- the reinforcing of gender stereotypes and roles through advertising

- anything you are interested in!

Hints:

Have some of your groups members be the interviewers, and others be the experts.

The following websites regularly post news articles and events about gender issues. Check them out and see if you can find something that interests or inspires you:

http://www.theguardian.com/world/gender

http://www.usatoday.com/topic/dac2fa1f-511f-4fef-b9ec-c4f30a0981ee/gend…

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/news/gender-roles/

Read other newspapers too! Sydney Morning Herald and the ABC both have online news sites - there are constantly articles being posted about gender issues.

Listen to some podcasts! Below there is a segment from an episode of 'This American Life' which talks about gender performance in high school - listen to the prologue.

Non-digital: if your group does not have access to technology for whatever reason, you may hand in the script of your podcast and present it in front of the class.
