Introduction
Welcome to the United States' Intelligence Center for Energy Resources
We need your help in finding how we can utilize the Earth's resources in order to produce energy that we can use.
As you begin your quest keep in mind that there are a variety of resources that the Earth has to offer.
We need to make sure that we use them wisely!
Task
Your task begins with your group choosing one of the following resources:
Sunlight/Solar
Water/Hydro
Wind
Coal
Oil
Your group will then research your chosen resource. You will have to answer the following questions:
What is this resource?
How can we use this resource? (3 ways)
What are the advantages of using this resource?
What are the disadvantages of this resource?
Would you suggest the use of this resource?
Finally, you will create a poster and present the information that you found about the resource.
Below are some links to websites that may help you answer these question. Click on the pictures to take you to the websites. No matter what resource you chose, each picture has information for you. You may use them or other sources to find your information.
Process
After your group has chosen the resource you will be researching, decide which person will have which job. The the jobs are as follows:
The Understander is in charge of researching what the resource actually is. They must learn how the resource works in terms of how it creates energy that we can use.
The Applier must find out what we use this resource for. In what ways do we use it to create energy? Find three ways it is used.
Mr./Ms. Positive will research what some of the advantages of the resource are. Why is it a good idea to use this resource? Try to find at least 3 positives but the more the merrier!
Mr./Ms. Negative will find out what some of the disadvantages of the resource are. Why may it not be a good idea to use this resource? Try to find at least 3 but trouble likes company!
Once everyone has done their job, meet back with your group and share your findings. Decide as a group if you would suggest using this resource and why. Then create a poster as a group that will be presented to the United States Intelligence for Energy Resources board.
