What is a topic?

When you read for the meaning, you should begin by looking for the topic. This helps you connect what you read to what you already know. In order to find the topic, ask yourself.

In some writing assignments, students are given a topic by their teacher. The topic could be related to something that was studied in class such as a piece of literature or a history or science concept. Students then need to research that topic to gather information before writing their paper. Other times, students are free to choose their own topic to write about. In that case, students need to spend time brainstorming ideas to come up with an idea. When choosing their own topic, students need to keep in mind the guidelines of the paper and make sure their topic offers enough information to support an entire paper.

Sometimes, teachers ask students to identify the topic in a piece of writing. To do this, students must read the piece and and then ask themselves what the writing was about. In general, a longer piece of writing may talk about different aspects of one topic, but the overall piece of writing still talks about one thing. To help identify the topic of a chapter or longer piece of writing, it is best to first identify the main idea of each subsection, then look for the overall idea that ties each section together.

Example 1 :

In group of words below, one of the words is the topic for all words. Underline the topic.

Elephants              Zebra               African animals

Lions                     Tigers

      The topic is African animals. All of other words are example of this topic.

Example 2 :

      In the group of words below, one of the words is the topic for all the other words. Underline the topic.

Wheels                  tires                 steering wheel

Seats doors            car      

 The topic is car. All other words are parts of a car. In these exercises, you should work with another student. By discussing your work, you will learn more from the exercises and you may change the way you think about reading.

Process

1. Students must listen carefully the explanation of the teacher to be able to answer the questions correctly.

2. The student must repeat the teaching of teachers at home so as not to forget to the teaching material.

3. Student must carefully determine the topic of which is correct.

4. Identify topic in a series of related words.

      5. To be able to work with the topic by listing the things related.

Evaluation

Conclusion

A : Excellent

student can get this whenever we can answer the question correctly overall. and also without one question wrong. 

B : Good

student gets this value if the answer more than half the questions correctly, or 60% of the questions that has been provided. 

C : Fair

student could answer about half of the problems that exist, or equal to 55% of the problems that exist.

D : Bad

student can only get this value that can only be answered less than 40% of the problems that exist.
