The Salem Witch Trials

Introduction

A girl fell sick in 1692. Her “fits” (convulsions, contortions, and outbursts of gibberish) confounded everyone. Soon other girls began to have the same symptoms. The doctor could suggest but one cause. Witchcraft.

That grim diagnosis launched a Puritan inquisition that took 25 lives and filled prisons with innocent people. This is the rich history of a Massachusetts community called Salem.
