Is Spotify Premium Worth It?

Introduction

Do you like listening to music? Would you like to be able to listen to whatever song you wanted without worrying about the number of skips or commericial? Spotify Premium gives you this option, but is it worth the amount of money you are paying for the account?

This activity invites you to apply your knowledge of multiplication, division and algebra to create problems from data being investigated.

Task

Your goal is to investigate if the amount of money you are paying for Spotify Premium is worth the amount of music you will realistically listen to. View the advantages of Spotify Premium. This activity will start out without the 3 month trial period of $0.99. You will automatically pay $9.99 per month. Be aware, each students results will differ based on music preferences.

Process

  1. You will keep track of all lists and data in a spreadsheet.
  2. Create a list of all of the albums you are likely to follow in your first month using Spotify Premium. Be sure that these albums are also found on iTunes or Amazon Music.
  3. On iTunes or Amazon Music, look up the prices for each of these albums' online download.
  4. Compare the sum of the prices of the albums to the price you are paying for Spotify Premium this month.
  5. You decide to continue with the Premium account for a full year, another 12 months.
  6. Look at this list of anticipated album releases for 2017. Create a list of the albums you would likely listen to on Spotify when they are released. If an album you know is being released, but isn't on the list, include it and provide a source.
  7. Estimate the price of each of these albums using previous prices of albums by the same artist.
  8. Compare the sum of the prices of these albums to the price you are paying for Premium these 12 months.
  9. Compare the sum of the prices of both lists to the price you are paying for Premium for the full 13 months.
  10. Repeat this process with paying $0.99 the first 3 months and $9.99 the last 10 months.
  11. Repeat this process with paying the student fee, $4.99 for 13 months.

  2. Handwritten calculations and notes
