Introduction

Have you ever asked yourself what you know about Swiss traditions?

Have you ever heard of the "Schwingerfest"? What traditional food do you know that comes from Switzerland?

Well here is the chance for you to get familiar with traditions and customs in Switzerland.

Task

As it is mentioned in the introduction: You are going to learn various things about different Swiss traditions. In a first step you get familiar with a specific topic such as music, sports, religious customs or arts that are typical in Switzerland.

In a second step you work together in a group. As the expert about your chosen topic you have to inform you class mates about the topic with various examples.

Last but not least you can talk in your group about certain questions that are linked to the topics

Process

Task 1) In this first task you can watch a video about traditions and customs in Switzerland. Watch it by yourself or in a group of 3 people. (2 min)

Task 2) Form groups of 3 persons. Each group can now choose one of the topics listed below and gather information about it. Each group writes 1/4 page about 2-3 examples that are involved in this topic. For this task you have 15 minutes. You can find the information on the following website-link:

Task 2) Now go back to your group. Each member of the group has now 5 minutes time to tell what he/she found out about the own topic based on the informations of the website. So in total you have as a group 20 minutes for this task.

Task 3) In this last task you can answer the following questions in your group

  • Have you ever heard "yodeling"? Do you like it or not? Why?
  • Would you like to try out "Schwingen"? Or do you think it is too dangerous?
  • What are your thoughts about Watchmaking? Couls you imagine doing this as a job?
  • What is your favourite traditional food from the list on the website? Talk about your experiences
