Introduction
We've learned a LOT about energy this year! There are a lot of different types of energy- mechanical (which includes both kinetic and potential), thermal, chemical, electrical, sound, light, and more!
Electrical energy is a type of energy that is found in nature (think: lightning, static shocks). Humans have learned to harness (control) and create electrical energy to power our devices and our homes.
However...many of the ways for us to create electricity aren't environmentally friendly or safe. There are other ways, but they have their own challenges.
Use this webquest to help Ms. Montano decide where she should get her electricity from.
Task
Ms. Montano is in charge of designing a new school. She has worked with architects to design the building. She has worked with landscapers to design the campus. So far, the Board of Directors have approved her plans.
The next thing that they want to know is where the school will get its energy from. She has mentioned alternative energy sources to them (think...not fossil fuels), and they are intrigued. But, they need more information.
She has to come up with a proposal (a written plan) for them, and she needs your help!
Your task: Determine what you think the best source of energy is for the school. Be sure to consider pros (positive, good things) and cons (negative, bad things) about each energy source before making your final decision.
You will have to write a proposal suggesting what source of energy the school should use. Be prepared to defend your choice, and why you didn't choose the other options.
