Density

Introduction

-You have some different materials

You must determine which of them sink in water (more denser than water)

and which of them float on water (less denser than water)

-You must know what is meant by density

Task

First

You will prove by an experiment that some materials sink in water and other float on water (differentiate between more denser materials and less denser materials)

Second

You must define the density

Process

Task 1

To differentiate between the denser and less denser materials ,you must show the following video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcQR6vV1Sqo

Task 2

look at the following link to define what is meant by

density

http://physics.about.com/od/fluidmechanics/f/density.htm

Evaluation

1-Define the following

The density of iron is 7.8 gm/cm3

2-Give a reason

The iron nail sinks in water while the piece of wood floats on it ?

3-complete

Each matter has it's ..................density

Conclusion

Density

It is the mass of unit volume of matter

The unit of density is gm/cm3

-Each matter has it's own density

-Some matters float on the surface of water because they have density less than density of water as

Wood

Ice

Cork

Oil

Plastic

The other matters sink in water because they have density more than the density of water as

Iron

Copper

Alumimum

Gold
