Introduction

In this WebQuest you will learn how to dissect a rat and what each of the organs in the rat are used for. while doing this i would like you to think about what you know about the human anatomy and compare the two.

Process

Study the anatomy of the rat and look up what each of these organs are used for. You may use the websites given or find the information on another website or in your book. You will want to write what you find down to study for in class assignments.

Diaphragm, Liver, Testicles, Stomach, Small Intestine, Large Intestine, Uterus, Ovaries, Caecum, Kidneys, Heart, and the lungs. 

Evaluation

Rubric for Rat Dissection

Dissection (20 pts.)

  • H-cut on the underside of the rat

    • From the base of the neck to the reproductive organs

  • Keeping the inside of the rat in tact (not destroying organs while cutting)

  • Moving the intestines outside of the rat to look underneath them

Labeling 

Determine the sex of your rat. (20 pts.)

  • male rat label the testicles

  • female label to uterus and ovaries

Now that you know the sex label these organs (60 pts.)

  • Diaphragm

  • Liver

  • Stomach

  • Small intestine

  • Large intestine

  • Caecum

  • Kidneys

  • Heart

  • Lungs

Conclusion

Be ready to dissect a rat in class and tell me the organs I've listed along with the function of each of them.
