You are entering an Eric Carle writing contest. In this contest contestant will do their best Erick Carle impressions.Eric Carle is an amazing author who has created countless books children simply fall in love with. These books can be a great way to spark the imaginations of young writers.

Task

 

You will write and illustrate you own “Eric Carle style” short stories. Your books must be an original story written about an animal. Your story should include information about what make the animal you chose unique or a unique process that they go through. You will need to include your own original collage style art for each page.

Process

 

  1. Your first assignment is to find out more information about the author. You will need to do some research. Find out about Eric Carl’s style and his type of illustrations.

  1. Your second task is to choose which process or unique characteristic you are going to write bout. You will need to do some research. Using the tools and knowledge you learned in class, search the internet for more information about your animal. Star to think about how it can be written as a story. Keep in mind that this is going to be a short story and to choose accordingly.

  1. Your third task will be to write a rough draft of your story. Try to in vision the art that you want to go with the words you chose.

 

 

  1. Your fourth will be to complete your collage illustration for your story. Be creative and keep in mind how Eric Carle’s illustrations looked in the books we covered in class.

  1. Your fifth and final task will be to combine you final draft with your collage illustrations.

Conclusion

Now that you have completed an “Eric Carle style” short story, you should give yourself a pat on the back! You have researched a famous author and read many of his books. Through reading and writing about Eric and his stories you are able to appreciate an author and his work and hopefully you will share your knowledge and experiences with your friends!
