Introduction
Hey guys, we are trying something a bit different in HASS this term and for 3 out of 4 lessons, you will be doing self-guided learning. What this means is that you will have a number of tasks and activities that you need to do individually and, at times, in pairs. On Mondays, we will be in room 45 undertaking teacher directed learning where I will be giving you some background knowledge and the learning for the week. On Wednesdays and Fridays you will have access to computers where you can undertake your own self-guided learning. We are learning about Australia's history and what makes us the nation we are today.
You will go into the process tab on the left and that will have a range of activities you need to complete in order. Once you have completed an activity or task, you will need to show me so that I can say you have met the learning requirements for that particular task.
The different things we are focusing on is as follows:
1. Australia being colonised (What happened? Why did it happen? How did it happen? Who made it happen? Where did it happen? When did it happen?)
2. The Indigenous Australian perspective (View SBS' 'First Australians: They are here to stay' documentary, different stories about indigenous people during colonisation, the effects of colonisation on indigenous people)
3. The non-European experience (Chinese immigrants, Kanakas, New Caledonians)
4. The establishment of states and cities (what it was like to work back then and daily life).
5. Social Legislation (White Australia policy, Harvester Judgment, Invalid & old-age Pension Act, Maternity Allowance).
6. Australian Identity through the ages (music, film, sport, war).
I hope you guys enjoy this process, I am predicting it to be a success!
