Zambia held a referendum on 11 August 2016 alongside with the general elections. This is because Article 79 of the constitution (amended clause) requires a referendum in which citizens either accept or rejected the proposed bill of rights. The bill of right are the cornerstone of democracy in Zambia as it protects the right of all citizens and ensures that government does not infringe on these rights.However that, referendum failed due to failure of voters to reach 50% needed for the amendment of bill of rights.

the aim of this webquest is to help you dig into different resources and come up with a better understanding of what a referendum is all about. 

intended learners are secondary school students of civic education, ( grade 11A of Munali secondary school).
