Introduction
What are living things? This webquest will introduce you to the characteristics of living things and how scientists determine between a living organism and a non-living thing.
Task
Your task is to review the websites provided and to take notes on the websites. You will need to be able to name the characteristics of living things when you've completed the websites. Once you've finished the first websites, visit the final website and take the "Living vs. Non-living Quiz." Record your answers on the chart provided. Paste the chart into your notebook.
Your final task will be to create a Characteristics of Living Things Project.
Process
Tape the notes and the quiz papers into your notebook. Click on the first link below and read the information found on this website. Fill in the blanks in your notes as you read through the website. Repeat this process for the other two websites.
When you have finished the three websites, go to the final website- The Quiz. As you answer the quiz questions, fill in the name of the object and the CORRECT answer on your sheet.
Finally, you will finish the webquest by creating the project that will be handed out to you by your teacher.
Evaluation
You will be evaluated (or graded) on several items. Your notes and quiz will be graded when notebooks are graded. Your project includes the rubric that will give you the grade for that part of the webquest.
Conclusion
The final product for your webquest is your project.
Answer the following:
You are a member of a space crew. Your mission is to explore new planets, collect data, and look for new life forms. You have been selected to be on a landing party and are transported down to the surface of a strange new world. In your journey, you come across a creature you believe to be living. Excitement overtakes you, as you radio back to the ship your find. The captain radios back to you, "How do you know that it is living?". Write a story about your find and how you "test" your idea. Be sure to be very specific about the findings that prove that the organism is indeed a living thing.
