A Trip Down Under

Introduction

We have been learning about the great continent of Australia.  The cool thing about Australia is that it is a country, continent, and an island! In this webquest, you will use everything you've learned about Australia, combined with addition and subtraction skills, to plan a vacation to the land down under.  Unfortunately, we can't take a field trip to Australia, but who knows, you may want to add this vacation to your bucket list.

Task

Hello girls and boys! Or as they would say in Australia, G'day Mates!

Your task to is play the role of a travel agent and plan a trip to Australia.  You have a client who is looking to travel to Sydney, Australia with her husband.  She is always busy working, so she has hired your travel agency to plan their trip.  She has a budget of $8,000 and the vacation is for 3 nights and 4 days.  They want to travel between the dates of August 1st and August 6th.  They both love to swim and crave adventure.  Her husband enjoys arts and music.  Her main concerns are to get the best deal on all expenses and see the most popular sites of Sydney.  You and your partner must include the following in your plan.

  • Airfare for 2 people from new Orleans (MSY) airport to Sydney Australia
  • 2 tourist activities
  • Hotel stay for 3 nights

Once you have the total cost for these essential details, calculate the amount of money the couple will have left over for food, souvenirs, and transportation during their trip.

Process

Your first step is to research and find the best flight for them to get to Australia.  Keep in mind that they will have a layover, but they want to spend most of their time in Australia.  Use the sites on the Padlet to help you find the best flight.  Remember!  They are on a budget, so explore your options.

Click the link for the Padlet! Remember to record details for your flight on the Trip Planner Worksheet.

Now that you've found the best flight for them, it's time to choose a hotel.  Your clients requested that the hotel has free wi-fi and is rated at least 3 stars. You can use the same sites on the Padlet to find the best hotel for your clients.  Be sure to explore your options to maximize their travel experience and stay within their budget.  Remember to read all details to ensure their satisfaction.

Great News!  You've found the best flight and hotel for your clients.  Now you need to plan 2 excursions or activities for them to do while they are there.  Remember to consider their interests, which are on the Task page of this webquest. Use the Padlet to explore the many options for Sydney.  Choose 2 activities they will enjoy.  Don't forget to record the details on your Trip Planner Worksheet.
