EN4HOSTS - Types Of Accommodation In Tourism

Introduction

The material resources for accommodation represent the main part of the touristic material resources, as they satisfy some of the basic needs of the tourists. In order to better meet the tourists’ needs, it is necessary to have a variety of lodging facilities which can accommodate tourists’ different requests, reasons for travelling and financial status.

In this webquest we will learn about:

  • The types of accommodation at international level
  • Hotel star rating
  • Building and architectural design
  • Basic and supplementary amenities (free or paid)
  • Customer typology
Task

Your task for this webquest is to find out exactly which are the main types of accommodation and how they are star rated according to their characteristics. You and your group (four students total) will become "experts" on characterizing lodging facilities and will identify the rating characteristics they have to prove.

At the end, you will create a PowerPoint presentation in which you will include images of various lodging facilities (exterior and interiors), with descriptions of their star rating and the amenities they offer.

Conclusion

Don’t forget!

What makes the difference between the various types of hotels is, generally, the facilities and comfort level. Across the world, there are luxury hotels – some have a tradition of 100 years, which offer personalized services, and thus making the international star rating difficult to compare in the absence of a unitary rating system. For example, there are now ultra-luxury hotels, rated 6 – 7 stars, which offer their customers not only luxury and comfort, but also a personal experience due to the attention and services they provide: airport transfer by luxury limousines, stylish atmosphere, personalized fitness and wellness services, their motto being: “Six star hotels are a marriage between luxury and design”.
