Introduction
Now, you are going to learn about the origin of the song of "Travelling Back"
Task
Students have to read and answer some questions about the history of the lyrics of the song "Travelling Back"
Process
The journey of the Romani people throughout the European continent moving from east to west. Follow the journey on a map to help pupils visualize it. These people left their mark along the entire route, whilst at the same time taking the influences of the places they were travelling through and disseminating these influences in new places. There are three areas where the Romani people mainly settled: in the Balkans, where they created the gypsy style music; in France, where they merged the gypsy style with jazz; and in the south of Spain, where they influenced flamenco.
In the song 'Travelling Back' of Martín-Vivaldi, the gypsies are making the same journey in reverse, hence the title. The song as a journey in which, consequently, there are changes in the 'landscape'. So, in the introduction sounds that evoke the traditional Gypsy world (anvils, wagons, horses ...) and sounds of nature where the wagon travels (birds ...) can be heard. The following instrumental interlude is a jazz manouche. The third section is in the oriental gypsy music key followed by a gypsy ska (Romska) with a fanfare, predominantly played by brass-wind instruments.
