Mr. Medved's Webquest

Introduction

Welcome botanists,

We are going to learn more about plants and photosynthesis. Will begin by understanding how the process of photosynthesis takes place. Will use terms such as chloroplasts, carbon dioxide, and glucose. We will also learn the affects that photosynthesis has on Earth and the biosphere.

Botanists, it's your job to learn all that you can about photosynthesis. Complete every task by reading the material, watching the videos, and answering every question. At the end will be an evaluation that demonstrates your complete understanding.

Enjoy!

Task

Task 1

Watch the following two videos about photosynthesis. These videos will help introduce and explain the topic.  After you've watched the video, continue to Task 2.

Task 2

For this task, click on the following link and go to the website that explains photosynthesis.  Read through the page and learn about the photosynthetic process. After you read (and have already watched the two videos in Task 1) take the short quiz below.  Write the answers down in your science journal to bring to class for discussion.

https://photosynthesiseducation.com/photosynthesis-for-kids/

1. What do plants need to undergo photosynthesis and make food?

a) Carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight

b) Oxygen, glucose, and sulphur

c) Water, ammonium, and phosphate

2. What gives the leaves on plants its green color?

a) Chlorophyll

b) Carbon dioxide

c) Phosphate

3) Where does the Calvin Cycle take place?

a) Stroma

b) Roots

c) Xylem

Task 3

Lastly, click on the following website to access a photosynthesis game.  Have fun and please remember to bring your quiz answers to the next class.

Evaluation

Congratulations fellow botanist,

You have completed the Tasks assignment. For your final assignment you will need to create something to demonstrate your understanding of photosynthesis.  You will be expected to present in front of the class.

You can choose any of the following:

  • Make a short video

  • Create a performance that acts out the photosynthetic process

  • Create a slideshow

  • Make a poster board

  • Draw a cartoon that illustrates all the processes
