Introduction
I'm sure you have listened about Climate Change many times. It's one of the things that is the most talked about at the moment.
You have probably listened or read information from many different places like TV chanels, newspapers or on the Internet but, do you know what is exactly Climate Change? What are its causes and its worst consequences?
If you want to learn about it and try to make it desappear, sit down, stay on this website and you will help the planet.
Task
TASK: To make this WebQuest, please read the following information and then answer the questions.
Process
Part 1: THE CAUSES
The Greenhouse Phenomenon is a natural process that allows the Earth to mantain the necessary conditions for life: the atmosphere retains part of the heat of the Sun. Without it, the temperature on Earth would be -18ºC.
The problem is when we increase the emission of gas like carbon dixide, methane or oxid of nitrogen, and the atmosphere retains more heat than necessary. That emission of gas comes from Industrial Revolution since now. But this isn't only the problem. The destruction of life in forests and acuatic ecosystems by the human makes also the climate change, because they are in charge of absorb part of the dioxide of carbon to live.
Part 2:THE EFFECTS
The global temperature has aumented 1.1ºC and it will increase in the following years. But, how does climate change affect us? This global increase brings consequences that endanger the survival on the Earth: flora, fauna and humans. First of all, it makes all the ecosystems change, because animals have to change their habitat or they die, and higher temperatures make some plants to die, so some ecosystems become deserts.
In other ones, like in the North and South poles, ice melts on summer because of high temperatures, so it destructs places to live for polar bears or foxes, and there is also more water on the seas and oceans and it could flood beaches or cities soon. Sea level rises 5 mm in a year. Animals and plants have to adapt to this changes, so lots of them are extinguishing.
The climate change makes also modify the wheather conditions, which are more extreme. For exemple, there are actually many natural disasters like tornados, hurricanes and strong rains, like that one that occurred last september in the southwest of Spain, while in other places there is drought or big fires, like in Australia, which destruct crops and kill plants and have destructed more than a billion animals.
Part 3: HOW COULD WE STOP IT?
It's important to make clear that climate change cannot be avoided, but we can reduce its effects. We can combat it by applying some mesures.
79% of carbon dixide comes from burning fuel to make energy for transports and factories, and 91% of the energy resources aren't renewable. So we must use renewable ones in stead of the others because this ones don't pollute, or we can reforest some zones because plants help us absorbing carbon dioxide. But we also have to collaborate, for example, not wasting much energy at home.
Evaluation
QUESTIONS:
- What is Greenhouse Phenomenon?
- Why is gas like carbon dioxide bad for the Earth?
- How does Climate Change affect the wild life?
- Why is sea level rising?
- What other consequences are there?
- How could we stop Climate Change?
Conclusion
The purpose of this WebQuest about Climate Change was only to report and concern people about this problem make them answering the questions after reading. We also have learned more things that we didn't know thanks of this project.
The final conclusion is that:
This is a problem of all and we must collaborate to change it!
