Health-Related Fitness Components Webquest

Introduction

Have you ever wondered ways you can maintain good health and wellness in your life? In this webquest, you will become an expert on how you can achieve this! You'll dive into various components that benefit your health and wellness and ways you can work on that. I hope you're ready to learn all about the 5 health-related fitness components!

 

Task

In this WebQuest, you will be exploring the different health-related components of fitness. Health-related fitness components are crucial to your health and wellness due to various benefits. Your goal today will be to gather information about your assigned health-related fitness component, after searching and learning from the resources provided. As you discover the information that provides answers to the provided questions, you need to create a word document with your findings, and email it to your PE teacher. One member of your group needs to create a short presentation (google slides or PowerPoint) to present to your classmates next week. By the end of class today, you should know all about the health-related fitness component you are assigned and will soon know about the other four!

Process
  • Split up!
    • You will divide into groups of four. After being split, the teacher will assign each group (there should be 5 total groups) a different health-related fitness component to focus on. 
  • Gather your info!
    • You can use the resources provided below (or you can find your own, trustable resources) to gather any and all information to fully inform someone about your health-related fitness component. 
    • Make sure to cite your sources you use at the end of the presentation in MLA format! 
    • Each group member needs to contribute to this document.
      • Assign each group member a font color to jot down their information and provide somewhere in your document a "key" to let me know who found what information. 
  • Create a running document. 
    • Make a shared document with your group members and jot down the information you come across throughout different resources. 
    • When done, email to your PE teacher.
  • Presentation Time!
    • Using your document made with your group, you will create a fun, eye-catching presentation to inform your classmates all about your topic!
    • You may use Google Slides or Microsoft PowerPoint for this!
  • Practice it!
    • I recommend practicing your presentation together before presenting it to the class.
    • EACH group member must contribute to the discussion when presenting!
  • Learn!
    • During each presentation, you will make notes about the component your classmates are informing you about and will turn it in for a grade.
      • This will be completed on a sheet on paper - no phones or computers allowed during presentations!

Topic Knowledge

 

The research info document & presentation include thorough information about the component. Students showcase well-rounded knowledge of their component.  The research info document & presentation contain a fair amount of information about the component however there is not enough information for a well-rounded description of the topic. There is very minimal information provided about the component between the research infoGood  document & presentation.   

 

Teamwork

 

 All group members contributed a significant amount to both the research info document & presentation.  Some of the group members contributed a significant amount to both the research info document & presentation. Some of the members only provide minimal information about the component.  There are some members who did not contribute to the research info document & during the presentation.  

 

Creativity 

 

 The presentation is colorful, engaging, and has a unique design.  The presentation is slightly engaging in a visual sense.  The presentation is not engaging visually and does not showcase effort in the presentation design, I.e. is "boring looking".   

 

Presentation Skills

 

 Students show preparation through presentation skills. All group members equally share information during the presentation.  Students show some preparation during the presentation and have an almost equally share time among group members.  Students are not prepared to present their presentation and do not equally share presentation time among their group members.

Grading Scale: 

18-20: Excellent Work! You put in good time and effort to learn and inform about your component!

15-17: Good Job! You did a good job finding information about your component and telling us about it!

10-14: Decent Job. You did okay with your research collection and presentation however, there is major room for improvement.

0-9: Needs improvement. There is large room for improvement and research and presentation was not near expectations. 

*For the reflection pages turned in after presentations - students will be given a 100 completion grade as long as each component has at least 3-5 information notes.*

Conclusion

As we wrap up our WebQuest on the five health-related fitness components, take time to reflect on each of these components, maybe recognizing one that you would like to improve for yourself in the future. Through this research and the presentations from your groups, you should have a general idea about each of the components and should be able to tell others about each of these components now!

While reflecting on this WebQuest, ask yourself a variety of questions: Can I identify what the five components focus on? Can I provide ways to work on each of these components? How can you test each of the components? Where in my daily life, could I start improving on one of these components of health-related fitness?

Your research and presentations show not just myself, but yourself and your classmates just how hard you worked to learn about the five health-related fitness components. These components are critical to living a healthy lifestyle with an individual's health and wellness! I am so proud of the work you all put into this assignment and I hope you enjoyed taking part in it! After today, I encourage you to take a n ew perspective on how you can live out a healthy lifestyle and I hope you decide to take action steps in improving at least one of the five health-related fitness components in your life!
