Introduction

Hi 4th Grade! Today and tomorrow you will have an introduction to the Bill of Rights and investigate the 1st Amendment. Based on the information you learn, you will do an opinion writing on the five freedoms in the 1st Amendment.

By the end of this WebQuest, you will be able to answer the following questions?

  • Who was in charge of getting the Bill of Rights passed?
  • What is the Bill of Rights?
  • What is the First Amendment?
  • What are the five freedoms and how they are used in everyday life?

Based on what you found on the websites yesterday determine which freedom you want to focus on. You are trying to convince me which freedom is the most important

In this writing, you should include

  1. What an amendment is (intro)
  2. what the 1st amendment is specifically (intro)
  3. what freedom do you think is the most important (opinion)
  4. Why is that the most important freedom (2-3 reasons)
  5. An example of how you could use that freedom (2-3 examples)

Complete the final draft of your opinion writing.

Based on your outline reading either type your thoughts on the computer in paragraph form OR write out your thoughts on paper in paragraph form.

Conclusion

If you have made it to the end you should have completed both worksheets and your opinion writing. You should now have knowledge of what the First Amendment is and how you can use it.
