Have you ever wondered what is beyond Earth? Imagine that you are a young space scientist preparing for a mission to explore our Solar System!
Our Solar System contains the Sun, eight planets, dwarf planets, moons, asteroids, comets, and other objects. The eight planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
In this WebQuest, you will become a Space Explorer. You will use reliable online resources to investigate the planets and discover what makes each one unique. At the end of your journey, you will create a product that will help other students learn about our Solar System.
Task
Your task is to become a Space Explorer and investigate one planet in our Solar System.
Working individually or with a small group, you will:
- Choose one planet to investigate.
- Research reliable information about your chosen planet.
- Find out its location, size, appearance, atmosphere, temperature, moons, and other interesting characteristics.
- Compare your planet with Earth.
- Create a Planet Explorer Presentation or Infographic.
- Present your findings to your classmates.
Your final product should answer this question:
“What makes my chosen planet unique, and what can we learn from studying it?”

Step 1: Choose Your Planet
Choose one of the eight planets:

Step 2: Become a Researcher
Use the provided online resources to gather information about your chosen planet.
Find answers to these questions:
- Where is the planet located from the Sun?
- How big is the planet?
- What does the planet look like?
- What is its atmosphere like?
- What is its temperature like?
- Does it have moons?
- What makes the planet different from Earth?
- What is one interesting fact about the planet?
NASA identifies Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars as the inner terrestrial planets, while Jupiter and Saturn are gas giants and Uranus and Neptune are ice giants.

Create a simple research chart containing the information you found.
