Our Asian Neighbours

Asia is the world's largest continent.  Almost two thirds of the world's population is contained in Asia.  Asia is located to the north-west of Australia.  Asia includes 48 countries and there are approximately 2197 languages spoken.  The highest point in Asia is Mt Everest in Nepal (8850 meters) and the longest river is the Yangtze River in China (6300 kilometres long).  Asia can be divided into six regions; Central Asia, South-East Asia, Eastern Asia, Northern Asia, Southern Asia and Western Asia.

Follow the steps to see what you are going to be doing.....

There are two tasks for this Webquest;

1. PowerPoint Slide Presentation

You are going to create a PowerPoint Slide Presentation about Our Asian Neighbours.  Your slide presentation must include ONE slide for each of the following countries; Indonesia, China, Japan, Vietnam, Timor-Lest, and another Asian country of your choice.  Your presentation should also include in Introduction slide and a Conclusion slide.  That means your presentation will include 8 slides in total.

For each country you need to include the following; name of the country, region the country is located, location of the country in relation to Australia, capital city, population, environment and two interesting facts about the country.

2.  Persuasive Poster

You are to choose one of the Asian countries included in your PowerPoint Presentation.  Using the information you have researched you are going to create a Persuasive Poster.  You must persuade the audience that this country is a great place to travel to.  This means you are going to create a poster to convince the audience that the country you have chosen is the best country in Asia to visit.

1.  You will need to create a PowerPoint slide presentation.

Start gathering your facts.  Your "Geography Now" text book is a great place to start.  You will need to do research via the internet to find any additional information.  Make sure you include all the required information listed in the task description.  Include maps/pictures where you think they are needed.

Work through your slides until you have completed the presentation to the best of your ability.

2.  When you have completed your PowerPoint Slide Presentation you may start work on your Persuasive Poster.

You should already have all the information you need.  Design a Poster that people will notice and that includes enough information so that the audience can make a well informed decision about which country will be best to visit.  IT MUST BE PERSUASIVE! You must convince the audience that your chosen country is the best choice for them to travel to.

Your PowerPoint Slide Presentation will be graded as part of Geography and Media/Technology.

Your Persuasive Poster will be graded as part of English and Media/Technology.

Your posters will be presented to a class at another school where the students in that class will pick the most persuasive!  (It will be anonymous so nobody will know who the posters belongs to).
