A Piece of the World

Introduction

Imagine that you are a first time explorer to the United States of America back in the year of 1800s.  With all states fully developed and waiting for someone to build, research about each state to figure out which state and region would be most appropriate to you and your family.

Task

Each student will:

  • Be able to tell the teacher two details of all 50 states 

  • Pick one state that the student wishes to research more extensively

  • Present an oral presentation to the class lasting 3-5 minutes

  • Create a poster that includes a picture of the state, information of the state, culture, what they wish to contribute to the state, and how they will live   

  • Written paper with all information about what they researched

Students can use the Internet, Textbook, and Encyclopedia only.

Process
  1. The class will take a trip to the computer lab; each student will research all 50 states and will choose two interesting facts for all states.
  2. The student will then write down the facts that they researched and will have a one on one discussion with the teacher.
  3. After this the student will pick which state they want to research more about.
  4. The end result will include: oral presentation and poster with all information requested.
  5. Have a written paper full of research details to turn in.
Conclusion

After extensive research and presenting information to the class, the student will know more about the 50 states, along with a state that they found most interesting.
