Exploring Canada's Territories and Provinces

Introduction

How often does our friendly neighbor to the north cross your mind? Canada is closer to Pennsylvania than most of the states in our own country are, but it doesn't seem to come up in conversation very ofter. Did you know that Canada doesn't have states? Canada is actually divided into 3 territories and 10 provinces.

Three territories:

  1. Northwest Territories
  2. Nunavut Territory
  3. Yukon Territory

Ten provinces:

  1. Alberta
  2. British Columbia
  3. Manitoba
  4. New Brunswick
  5. Newfoundland and Labrador
  6. Nova Scotia
  7. Ontario
  8. Prince Edward Island
  9. Quebec
  10. Saskatchewan

For this Social Studies Unit, the class will be creating an article for National Geographic on Canada. Each of you will work with one other student to research and write a piece about one of the territories or provinces. Then, we will put each pairs information together to create the complete article.
