Reading Rockstars

Introduction

Parents,

Do you want your student to love reading? Do you want to encourage creativity?

Join them as their manager on this rock'n, creative WebQuest to create superstar readers!

Students,

Do you want to master reading while having fun with your friends?

This WebQuest tour will begin in the classroom, worked on at home, and wrap up back in the class, then end with an award ceremony.

Task

Your first rock star assignment is to put a band together.

To read you must know the alphabet, right?

You will create an alphabet book using one music related noun to match with each of the 26 letters.

You'll assign each letter a corresponding rock star or piece of musical equipment.

You can achieve different levels to determine your talent. Try to reach legend level!

Soloist:

Writes each letter and has a corresponding image.

Rock Star:

Writes each letter in both upper case and lower case and has a corresponding image.

Super Star:

Writes each letter in both upper and lower case, has a corresponding image, and writes the word for their image.

World Wide Legend:

Writes each letter in both upper and lower case, has a corresponding image, and uses the word for their image in a sentence.

Process

Rock'n readers know their stuff and can use their talents in many ways.

Alphabet Book

  • Cut paper into half or fourths (depending on how big you want your book) until you have 26 individual pages and then staple them together. This is an excellent opportunity for your kindergartner to practice their cutting and counting skills. Managers don't fret over neatness, it's more important that your superstar does the work!
  • Be creative! Draw and color as much as possible in your book.
  • Use your tech skills to search, print, and paste images of the items you choose along with their corresponding letter.

Resources

  • Use these postings and links to improve your skills even farther.
  • The list of sight words can be used to help your star create sentences.
  • The musical alphabet can be used if you get stuck on a particular letter.
  • Playing word games can help spark creativity and memorization.

Every rock star reader needs a crew!

Evaluation

Students will complete the rubric with their teacher at school while examining their completed book.

Conclusion

Rock star readers will have a special award ceremony after everyone's rubric is complete and levels have been determined.

A special guest (the high school band) will make an appearance at the ceremony!

This rock'n webquest will have provided students the following opportunities:

  1. Practicing the alphabet
