Blood vessels

Introduction

Blood vessels are  main part of the circulatory system and can be described as the tubes through which blood is carried all around the body.

Task

After this lesson ends you should be able to

  1. Describe the structure and functions of arteries, veins and capillaries 
  2. Explain how the structures are adapted for their function
  3. State the function of arterioles, venules and shunt vessels
  4. Name the main blood vessels to and from the
  •  Heart,
  • limited to vena cava, aorta, pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein
  • lungs,
  • limited to the pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein
  •  kidney,
  • limited to the renal artery and renal vein
