On the Same Page Book Club - WebQuest Challenge

Congratulations!  You and your group members received permission to start a Book Club in your school, and are also in charge of the book selection!  But, before your weekend is all "BOOKED" with some good reads, be sure to check out the directions outlining how to build your incredible Book Club library!

Today, you get to go online shopping for all the books your money can buy.  With a $200 budget provided from the school, the sky is the limit!  Using the Book Order form, you and your group will buy various book titles within your given budget.  But wait...there are some guidelines you must follow:

  1. You must have at least 5 different book titles on your Book Order form.
  2. You must have at least 2 copies of each book you purchase.
  3. There must be a running total of all your purchases.
  4. You cannot spend less than $195 or more than $200 total.
  5. You are only allowed the class period to complete this WebQuest Challenge (45 minutes).

In order to ensure that the guidelines are met within the 45 MINUTE CLASS TIME, your group members must choose designated roles within the group to ensure that all tasks and requirements are met.  In your group, decide which member will take each role. Role descriptions are noted below.

  1. Team Leader - oversees group member's activities (and assists when needed) to ensure that all tasks meet project expectations and are completed in a timely manner.
  2. Shopper - gathers ideas and input from other group members to search for requested book titles.
  3. Number Cruncher - verifies that the books chosen meet the requirements as well as adheres to the project's budget plan by monitoring the Book Order form.
  4. Scribe - documents the triumphs, tribulations, and reflections of the project on the Google Doc to prepare for the final submission.

Once roles have been selected, you and your group can utilize various book stores/websites to locate book selections and prices.  Please note on the Book Order form which store/website that was used to obtain the information. You may choose to use one or more stores/websites for this WebQuest Challenge. You may also use credible stores/websites you may find during research.

Possible stores/websites (but not limited to):

Use the attached Google Sheet as the Book Order form to document your expenses.  The spreadsheet is already set to manipulate the data based on your input, but it is always a good idea to double check the calculations!  The Scribe can use the Google Doc Documentation Sheet to list the requested information pertaining to the group's experiences with this WebQuest Challenge. BOTH THE BOOK ORDER FORM AND DOCUMENTATION SHEET MUST BE SHARED WITH YOUR TEACHER AT THE END OF THIS ACTIVITY TO EARN A GRADE!

Please view the rubric to see how you and your group members will be graded for this WebQuest Challenge.

Each group member will receive the same score as this is a group challenge.  This WebQuest Challenge is worth 12 points.

At the end of this WebQuest Challenge, you and your group members will have a Book Order form with various book titles, amounts, and prices for your Book Club.  The total price should be within the budget.  Your group members will also have a Documentation Sheet with information regarding your experiences and reflection from this activity.  These documents will need to be shared with your teacher to earn a grade.  A score out of 12 will be awarded.

Extension Opportunity:  For those avid readers who cannot stop adding to their endless book collections, I have a challenge for YOU!  On the Same Page Book Club will have THE BEST book collection EVER, so instead of a $200 limit, what books would you purchase with a $1,000,000 budget?  The same requirements apply except the budget has increased from $200 to $1,000,000.  Let the shopping begin!
