Task

                40 minutes

1.List the element(s) for each set and give your answers in the notation:A={....}

a)the seven days of the week

b)the first five prime numbers

c)five Zambian towns that start with  k

  In groups of five, carry out the following questions:

1   a) Use the set builder notation to describe a set of whole numbers between one and ten

     b) Carry out the set operation below, given that: A = {2,4,6,8,10,12}, B = {4,8,12,16} and C ={ 2,6,10,14}

       A n (B u C).

     c) Illustrate the following in the  Venn diagram: 150 pupils participated in different sports as follows: 25 participated in foot ball only, 50 both in foot ball and basket ball, 75 participated in foot ball and net ball and  105 participated in all the games.

Conclusion

The notion of sets is so simple that it is usually introduced informally and regarded as self-evident.however,in set theorem as usual in mathematics sets are given axiomatically  thus their existance and basic properties are postulated by the appropriate axioms.
