Songkran Festival

                Songkran festival is not only held in Thailand ,but also in many countries. Songkran festival was originated in India. Indian splashed herbal colored water at each other in March.They believed that it made them healthy or more stronger. Then ,they splashed water instead because of hot weather. After that,Songkran festival has been broaden to other countries such as Thailand ,Myanmar and Laos. In these countries, people do different activities.To study differences and similarities of them makes us know and realize each country and culture. Besides, it makes us behave appropriately                            when we enjoy Songkran festival.

                After learning, we will find that Songkran festival of two countries (Thailand and Myanmar ) has both similarities and differences.You will see that these countries have their own activities. For example, peoper in Myanmar splash water at each other through their Songkran festival ( 5 days );moreover,they usually wash older persons' hair with Soap Pod juice. And they prefer to have their son become a Buddhist monk.In Thailand,the first day of  Songkran festival ( 13th of April ) is National Day of Older Persons. On this day, people show great respect to the elderly including their grandparents and give presents for them. There are many similar activities that people of both countries do;for instance, people do various activities such as splashing , making merit, pouring water on the hands of revered elders and asking for blessing, meeting family and etc. It shows that this festival is very important.It improves people to be a moralist -- grateful, bountiful, polite and etc. Moreover, these activities make us feel that we can begin our new lives every time –- good thinking, good speaking and good behavior. Learning background of Songkran festival in each country makes us realize their cultures and lifestyles actually. Furthermore, Songkran festival is original festival that the ancestors have hold for a long time. As the descendants, we have to preserve this great festival in order to remain it everlasting.
