Synopsis of Romeo and Juliet by: William Shakespeare

Introduction

Love is heavy and light, bright and dark, hot, and cold, sick and healthy, asleep and awake-its everything except what it is!
(Act 1, scene 1). Love is naturally the play's dominant and most important theme. This role play focuses on romantic love, specifically the intense passion that springs up at first sight between Romeo and Juliet.

The story is, indeed, based on the life of two real lovers who lived and died for each other in Verona, Italy in 1303. William Shakespeare is known to have discovered this tragic love story in Arthur Brooke's 1562 poem entitled “The Tragical History of Romeo and Juliet” and here we are you will show the Love that Happens in the role-play of Romeo and Juliet.

 

Task

Make a role play about Romeo and Juliet. Before you start you need to know the story of Romeo and Juliet since it is a long story your need only to have a concise summary of it.

You choose the setting, cast, costumes, music however you think William Shakespeare would want them to be represented. Your only limitation is you have to stay within the original storyline. So come up with a concept, gather your information, and make your ideas come true.

Process

To complete the task, please read all the directions carefully.

A. For this project I will allow you to choose your group. You will be working with these people for at least a few days so choose wisely. As a group, you will research the story of Romeo and Juliet in the ICT room. Take notes as you read, gathering information to use in making your summary.

B. Divide your group into five individual roles below. Each group member is now responsible for researching their part of the presentation keeping the overall concept decided by your group in mind.

 

1. Director will complete the character analysis portion of the project and research actors in the field to be cast in the production.

2. Scenic Designer will research the setting (time and place of your choice) and come up with a television set design that fits the overall group concept. The scenic designer can draw their designs, print pictures of set pieces, furniture, or props of the internet, or build a small model of the set design to present to the class.

3. Sound/Lighting Designer is responsible for describing and presenting a specific mood set through music and lighting.

4. Costume Designer is responsible for a wardrobe of the time era chosen and re-reads the story for clues.

5. Characters who will play Romeo and Juliet and other characters.
