My Dream Trip (NZ)

Introduction

Wow! You have won a holiday around New Zealand - 1 week for you and your family (4 people total) with a maximum value of $5000. YOU get to decide what to do for your week! Where will you go and what will you do?

Task

Build an itinerary for your week long trip round New Zealand. You will need to think about where you want to go, how you will get there, where you will stay and what you will do once you have arrived.

Process

Step 1: Think of possible holiday options. Do some research and decide on some ideas for where you might like to go / what you might like to do.

Step 2: Print the sheet attached to record your planned spending (budget) or get this from your teacher.

Step 3: Begin with Transport. How are you going to get to your destination(s)? Record where you are going and how you will get there. If you are travelling by private car, assume cost to be $0.80 per km including fuel.

Record where you are going to stay and how much it will cost per night for 4 people.

Step 5: Food can be expensive when you are away from home. Using the details in the chart, calculate how much your food will cost while you are away.

Step 6: What activities would you like to do on your trip? Find at least SIX activities to do while you are away and remember that all four people will need to do these activities. Work out the costs and enter into your chart.

Try searching your location and 'activities' to find some ideas.

Step 7: there are always extra costs you dont think about when you are on holiday - calculate these costs using the numbers on the chart.

Step 8: Because you have all your ideas sorted so early, you will receive an 'early bird discount' for your transport, food, accomodation and activities. Calculate this discount on your chart.

Step 9: Work out the total cost of your trip - did you come in under your budget of $5000?
