Introduction
In this WebQuest the you will get the opportunity to practice multiplication mastery.
Multiplication fact mastery is important because learning the facts build the foundation for higher level math concepts down the road. You will be using pictorials to determine that multiplication is really a pattern of repeated addition.

Below are the Indiana Standards used for this activity:
3.C.2 Represent the concept of multiplication of whole numbers with the following models, and equal "jumps" on a number line. Understand the properties of 0 and 1 in multiplication.
3.AT.4 Interpret a multiplication equation as equal groups. (e.g. interpret 5 x 7 as the total number of objects in 5 groups of 7 objects each). Represent verbal statements of equal groups as multiplication equations.
Task
First, you will look at multiplication as the process of repeated addition.
Second, you will look at various pictures for clues as to the meaning of multiplication.
Third, based on the pictures, you will determine that multiplication is a process by which using repeated addition allows you to come up with the correct facts answer.
Process
First go to the Khan Academy website to view the multiplication video. This video will help you remember that multiplication is really a different form of repeated addition.
Next, look at the following worksheet. With a partner complete the examples and write equations for the pictures:

Next, in groups of 4 you will make sets of flash cards using simple drawings and writing equations on the front of the card. Answers will be written on the back.
example:
On the front of card: 6x5, under that will be a group of 6 dots, with 5 in each group.
On back: will be 30.

Evaluation
For the evaluation students will play a game called Kahoot.
kahoot is a web game, that has the teacher make a list of multiple choice questions. Students use devices to connect to the game through the internet. When the game starts the first question will pop up. With the question are 4 choices with one answer being correct. The students will have 20 seconds to select their answer. At the end of the time, the classroom results will pop up on the screen showing the class data based on answers given. Students answers are tallied for points. The game ends when all the questions are answered and point values our given.
Conclusion
As a conclusion activity you will go to the Math IXL website. Click on the length below. Do the 10 practice problems. Upon completion, you will bring your IPAD or Chromebook to the teacher so your score can be documented in the gradebook.
