United Nations Sustainable Development Goals webquest

Introduction

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

"If these Goals are completed, it would mean an end to extreme poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030.

Our governments have a plan to save our planet…it’s our job to make sure they stick to it.

The Global Goals are only going to work if we fight for them and you can’t fight for your rights if you don’t know what they are. We believe the Goals are only going to be completed if we can make them famous."

Task

Task:

Your job is to work your way through this Webquest in order to develop an initial understanding of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

When finished, we will do a little Kahoot quiz to check your understanding.

Later you will have two tasks:

  1. In the Twinspace there will be a section where you can post a photo of yourself holding a picture of the goal that matters most to you (either self-painted, designed with Canva, a photo/pic taken from the webpage www.globalgoals.org or www.worldpressphoto.org ; you can decide if you want to show your face or not). Explain briefly why this goal is important to you.

  2. Design an infographic of one of the goals (agree on the goal with your teacher). Post your infographic on the padlet in the Twinspace.
