The purpose for writing "The Latehomecomer" and "My Favorite Chaperone" were very similar. The purpose for writing both selections was to explain how difficult it is for people from other countries, or immigrants to move to another country, and settle in and make new friends. The authors discuss how both selections relate to culture and belonging because they both have two characters that move to America and have no idea on whats going on and don't fit in. In both selections there is a lot of figurative language being used. For example, metaphors, similes, and personification.
