Introduction
This webquest is designed to teach 6th graders about the five themes of geography.
Understanding the five themes of geography will help students learn more about the world around them.
Students will discuss, define and desribe the five themes of geography.

Task
You will learn about the five themes of geography and why it is so important.
Students will create a research book that includes:
The name of your country
One page for each of the five themes of geography answering each question.
Book may be as creative as you like and arranged in any sequence as long as all questions have been answered and requirments are met.
Can include drawings and pictures.
Process
To help you remember the themes Teacher will introduce the mnemonic " My Hand Really Likes Pizza"
You will then watch Five Themes by James White!
You will work in groups to create a project that reflects the five themes of geography. Each group will choose a country and create a project that includes the five themes. You will decide on the responosibilities of the project. Projects will be worked on during class hours.
Students will have to answer the following theme questions
Location
- Where is the place (longitude, latitude, continent, hemispheres)?
Movement
- Does the country import or export goods? What type of goods?
- What are the reasons people immigrate or emigrate to and from the country?
Place
- Describe the demographics of the people who live there.
- Describe the physical features of the country
- What is the climate?
Human Environment Interaction
- Where do most people live?
- How have people adapted or changed the land?
- How does the envrionment affect people?
Regions
- Do people speak multiple languages or dialects?
- How is the country similar or different to its neighbor?
- How many regions are in the country-provide examples

Rationale
Geography is more than maps. Geography complex subject that covers everything from physical and cultural characteristics of the world to human cultures and environment. This webquest is designed to help 6th grade students learn more about the world around them and how their interactions to the envrionment affect them and those around them. Learning about the five themes of geography can help students better understand issues and concerns regarding our planet such as global warming.
