Introduction
This experiential-learning career development event is designed as a classroom activity to emphasize the importance of agriculture in our state, region and community. Learning activities will focus on: agricultural literacy, career exploration, personal development, and integration of academics. Participation in this activity is also designed to fulfill the SAE component of middle school FFA membership.
The scenario for the event will be on a rotational basis as follows:
2016 The importance of agricultural industry in our county.
2017 – The importance of agricultural industry in Iowa.
2018 – The importance of agricultural industry in our region (similar to FFA District
Task
1. (Rules of Ag Impact)Each team will prepare a typed, four (4) page research paper outlining the teams plans to address the topic for the year. (DUE 1/15)
- Title page must include:
- Title
- Chapter Name
- Team Members
- Four (4) pages (not including title page)
- Double spaced o Ten (10) or twelve (12) pt font
- One inch (1”) minimum page margins
- One (1) – two (2) page bibliography attached to the back of four (4)-page proposal
2. Each team will deliver a ten (10) to twelve (12) minute presentation outlining why agriculture industry is important in the given topic area. (DUE 2/8 PRESENTATION)
- Teams should utilize visual materials that will enhance their presentation
3. At the conclusion of the presentation, members should prepare to receive and answer questions from the judges – Five (5) minutes
Process
- Students should work as a group and work through the following questions
- Information from 2015 Iowa Ag Statistics Book
- What locations can be used to find information about How agriculture affects this topic?

- What businesses are there in Fayette and Clayton County?
- What are agriculture crops and livestock grow in Clayton and Fayette County?
- Information should be collected as a group in one document (Google Doc) keeping in mind that all sources of information should be used in the bibliography.
- Each students should be researching information to a relate area of the topic and plan to cover that in your presentation. Once the information has been found it will all need to be summarized by you before it is placed into your paper.
- Bibliography: Creating this is very important; all information that you find about your project should be logged in your bibliography. (If you are researching in class and do not have time to correctly complete the bibliography on that day make sure you saved the webpage so you can revert back to the page)
- Create your presentation for the class! Be Creative and think outside the box.

When you are completed with this activity you will have a better understanding in the following areas

- How to research affects of agriculture?
- Organize information and summarize while compiling a group paper and presentation.
