Introduction
An amphibian is a cold-blooded vertebrate animal. A vertebrae means that these animals DO have a backbone. Amphibians are a class that comprises the frogs, toads, newts, and salamanders. They are distinguished by having an aquatic gill-breathing stage by a terrestrial lung-breathing adult stage.
Amphibians inhabit a wide variety of areas, but mainly in freshwater ecosystems, but they can live on land too. They have webbed feet, moist skin (no hair, fur), and they lay many eggs. Amphibian actually means "double life" because they can live on both land and water. They do not have claws or scales, and they also go through metamorphisis.
