Choosing a Publishing Company

Introduction

Hello students! It is time to publish your book! You have completed many steps leading up to this point, brainstorming, drafting, writing, editing, and creating a wonderful book and book cover. So what next? It is time to publish! 

Click on the tabs on the left to go through the process of selecting a publishing company.

Task

Alright class, here are your options. Below are five diferent publishing companies. Each company has a differnt price. It is your job to figure out the best deal for the number of books you want to order!

Big Publisher: $50.00 base price, $2.00 per book

Lots of Books: No base price, $4.00 per book

ML Publishing: $10.00 per book for first 10 books, $1.50 for each book after

Love to Read: $30.00 base price, $2.50 per book

Publish All Day: $5.00 per book for first 25 books, $2.50 for each book after

Use these companies and their information to do the problems in your math packet! 

Instructions: 

  • DAY ONE: Different companies will cost different amounts depending on the number of books you want to order. To show this, go to your worksheet and answer question #1 & #2 on the first two pages! 
  • DAY TWO: After you have shown the different price options, use your graphing skills to graph the information you found on question #3! 
  • DAY THREE: Last, choose how you want to publish! On the last page, choose the number of books you want to order and solve the problems according to each publishing company. The very last question asks you to determine which company has the best deal! 
  • EXTRA HELP: The last page has extra practice problems, if you have extra time or of the teacher instructs you to, visit this page!
