Consumer decisions; virtual fieldwork

Introduction

This fieldwork is designed for students to experience, learn and apply knowledge of commerce and consumers choices in real life situation. 

Students should follow directions in this webquest and carry out praxis.

Students should also complete worksheets and tables in this webquest as carrying out fieldwork in order to collect useful data and information for the study of consumer choice.

Task

Task 1: Shopping for dinner?

You are to work in groups of 4-5, watch a video and collect data from the video and fill in the data collection worksheet.

Step 1: decide your shopping list for dinner, you have a budget of $50 (you may want to print the table below out and work on it)
Step 2: find out the prices for the same goods in different shops, you may also take notes of the branding of the goods.
Step 3: make decision on what and where to buy, circle the goods you are buying in the table.

You are encouraged to go to your local shops to collect actual data; in this case, take some photos of your shopping process which may also help your learning process.

 How are they advertised/promoted? Are they on special?



 What will you choose if you have a higher/lower budget?



 What other reasons may change your decision on what to buy?

After "shopping" in physical shops, now let's try out online shopping and compare to physical shopping.
