Some examples include salespeople trying to sell you goods or when you are persuading your parents to buy you something that you desperately want. In this WebQuest, you will learn a how to craft a persuasive speech effectively.
Task
To deliver a 5 minute persuasive speech (per group) on the topic "Should the killing of sharks be banned?" in groups.
Process
Using the collaborative tool Padlet,
1. Define what a persuasive speech is
2. Define the purpose and structure of a persuasive speech
3. Write down the brainstorming process that your group has done to come up with your arguments, i.e. the different ideas, considerations

Evaluation
Your speech will be evaluated based on the following:
- Your main arguments/opinions are well-supported by evidence in the form of facts, statistics, research etc.
- The appropriacy of your arguments - whether it answers the topic
- How convincing your arguments are
- Articulatory features: Articulation/pronunciation of language, stress/emphasis
- Giving a speech according to the appropriate purpose, audience and context
Conclusion
After completing this WebQuest, you should have a better idea of how to speak more persuasively and how to craft better arguments. You should also have learned some oral skills that make a speech great (for instance intonation, pauses etc.).
